The Center for the Chinese Language and Culture was opened today on the basis of the Continuing Education and Upgrade Training College of the Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University. The representatives of the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Belarus attended the opening ceremony.

The morning of June 8 began with a meeting of Chinese volunteers. They were shown the university, and also invited to the Museum of History of the University. Foreign guests were keenly interested in the exhibits, asked questions about student detachments of the 1980s, teachers, modern material and technical facilities, and the procedure for admission to the university. Then, on the basis of the Continuing Educationand Upgrade Training College, a solemn opening ceremony of the Center was held. The organizers offered the songs to the audience in Chinese and Belarusian. We note traditionally high performing skills of the Folk Song Ensemble “Kvetsen”. Magistrant Li Tsiyue very emotionally read her favorite poem in Russian “To Chaadayev” by Alexander Pushkin. In turn, the student of Lyceum № 3 Anastasia Minina no less emotionally and, as far as we can judge, skillfully performed a song in Chinese “I loved you ...” (also by A. S. Pushkin). Skills of hand-to-hand combat were demonstrated by Wushu fighters under the guidance of the senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Leonid Baranov. “China is a strategic partner of Belarus. The opening of the Center is another important step in strengthening the friendship and partnership between our peoples”, said Igor Shardyko, Director of the College. Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev City Executive Committee Alla Aleksandrovna Galushko stressed the importance of the fact that the Center opened on the eve of the 750th anniversary of the city of Mogilev. “Friendship with China is supported by the leadership of our country. The interaction between Belarus and the PRC takes place in several directions — economic, political, cultural. It is gratifying that at the Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University the interaction with the PRC was put on a relatively new educational level for Mogilev”. According to Alla Galushko, knowledge of the Chinese language will significantly expand the opportunities for Belarusian youth, help them acquire new business connections, new friendships. The friendship and high level of mutual understanding between the two peoples was also spoken by the director of the Confucius Institute on the Chinese side, Ms. Shi Lin. She compared the Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University with the South-Eastern University in China. “I know that the Mogilev University will soon turn 105, our university will be 115. This is a decent age! We hope that further Belarusian and Chinese educational institutions will go hand in hand, including the help of the Center opened today”, she said. After the official part of the opening ceremony of the Center was completed, guests and journalists were invited to the classrooms. In the premises of the Center, by the way, equipped with the latest technology, the master classes were held on hieroglyphics, tea ceremony, etc. “The Center for the Chinese Language and Culture already, in fact, operates at the university. Today we only held its official opening. During this academic year more than 60 Mogilev residents touched the Chinese language, literature, culture. Among those who signed up for us are businessmen, teachers, doctors, students and teachers of the university, schoolchildren. They are trained by volunteers from China”, Igor Shardyko explained.
